Christmas Light Installation: Why Metro Detroit Homeowners Book in October

September 5, 2026 · Restoration Pressure Washing

There’s a specific kind of dread that shows up around Thanksgiving weekend: the tangled bins come down from the attic, the ladder goes up against a cold roofline, and half the strands don’t work. If that’s your annual tradition, professional holiday lighting is one of the most genuinely worth-it services you can hire — as long as you book it before the calendar fills.

What “Professional Installation” Actually Means

This isn’t someone stapling your old strands to the gutter. A full-service holiday lighting install covers the whole season:

  • Design. We map a look that fits your home — clean rooflines, peaks, columns, trees, and entryways — so it looks intentional, not busy.
  • Installation. Lights are clipped, not nailed or stapled, so they sit straight and your shingles, gutters, and trim aren’t damaged.
  • Maintenance. If a section goes out in the middle of December, we come fix it. You don’t touch a ladder all season.
  • Takedown. After the holidays, we remove everything and pack it away. No frozen January morning on the roof.

You get the lit-up house without owning the problem.

Why October Is the Sweet Spot

Two reasons, and both come down to timing:

1. The schedule fills from the back. Everyone wants their lights up the week of Thanksgiving. Installers can only do so many homes a day, so those prime late-November dates go first — usually by mid-October. Booking early locks in the dates you actually want.

2. The weather is on your side. Installing in October or early November means working on a dry roof in reasonable temperatures. Once it’s icy, installs get slower, riskier, and harder to schedule. (Your lights don’t have to be on early — they just need to be up early. Turn them on whenever you like.)

Questions Worth Asking Any Installer

Before you hand anyone a ladder and your roofline, ask:

  • Are you insured? Holiday lighting means working at height. Make sure whoever’s up there is covered.
  • How do you attach the lights? Clips are the right answer. Nails and staples damage trim and gutters.
  • Is maintenance included? A dark section in mid-December shouldn’t be your problem.
  • Is takedown included? It should be. Getting them up is only half the job.

We answer yes to all of those, and we’ll walk you through the design before we install anything.

A Smart Pairing: Clean Gutters First

Here’s a tip most people don’t think about: your gutters are about to be full of fall leaves, and your lights are about to be clipped to them. Getting a gutter cleaning done right before the light install means a cleaner line, better clips, and no soggy debris freezing behind your lights all winter. We can schedule both together.
